“Lyle, the next time you and Jon are out and about, I’d like you to stop back at the Atocha museum and buy that emerald ring Sage was admiring,” Morgan said, handing him a deep-blue credit card. “Her birthday is coming up soon, and I want to surprise her.”

The days slipped past. Days filled with walking and laughter, with casual dining, and sightseeing. They visited Hemingway’s house and all his cats, and had lunch at Sloppy Joe’s. Sage finally began to relax, and her recent trip into the past was fading.

“If I weren’t hungry, I would suggest staying in today,” Sage dropped into a kitchen chair across from Lyle and Jon. A pure-white polydactyl cat jumped into her lap. “Where did this charmer come from?” she stroked his soft fur and gently examined his six-toed paws.

“I think he followed you home from the Hemingway House. I heard it’s a law here that if one of Hemingway’s cats follow you home, you have to keep it,” Jon teased her. “And while we were sightseeing yesterday and you were at the beach, Morgan went grocery shopping. The fridge is full, so take your pick. I think the only things off limits are the steaks marinating,” Jon dug his hand into a bag of sugary donuts.

“I hope she got cat food.” Sage made a bacon and egg sandwich for breakfast and then sat alone in the fenced in yard to enjoy it, sharing pieces with the cat she named Paws.

“Something bothering you, dear?” Morgan quietly appeared in the yard.

“Not a thing, although…,” Sage hesitated, “yesterday I was looking at the piers and saw one of the smaller cruise ships. They have two-day cruises that will go to Havana, and then over to Nassau, and then back here. The weather forecast is clear.” Sage had been drawn to the cruise ship for some reason she couldn’t explain.

“Havana? Well, that might be interesting now that the US and Cuba have good relationships again. When would you like to go? Tomorrow?”

“I know you have steaks planned for tonight, so tomorrow I’d like to do the Mallory Square sunset and have dinner there if that’s alright. We can do the cruise after that.”

“Whatever you want, Sage.” Morgan knew she was pampering the girl, even to the point of buttering her up…for the next time travel, which may prove more delicate, and more dangerous, than the previous excursions.
